As per the Shiva Mahapurana, there was once a tiff between the two deities. Brahma ji said that ‘I am your father because this world has originated from me; I am the father of the people.’ Vishnu ji said that ‘I am your father; you have originated from my navel-lotus.’ They both became ready to hit each other. At that very moment, Sadashiv, that is, Kaal Brahm placed a white radiant pillar in between those two. Then he himself, appearing in the form of Shankar, told them that none of you is the creator. This story is also mentioned in the Varaha Puran. The main deity here is Lord Vishnu. This is where the remnants of Lord Vishnu are said to have been laid down by the Rishi. Lord Shiva is also believed to be present here. The temple that you would see is believed to be of 8th century. This temple was built by Rana Pratap. The foundation and main structure is believed to have been built by a Rishi called Meghavahana. This Rishi is believed to be known for his piety and that is why he is believed to have built this temple. The Rishi is said to have built this temple through an act of will. He was not born with such skills.
