HeroQuest is a single player roleplaying game that is in need of an overhaul. Players establish the character's personality by choosing their Hero's name and decide their social status, appearance, career, personality traits, and history. If the player is a Hero, he or she becomes the story's protagonist. Alternatively, non-Heroes enlist the Hero's aid in several quests. Heroes not heroic enough for their own adventures can instead be hired by the GM as non-Heroes.
Pushing the boundaries of RPGs, designer Matt Colville released Dungeon of the Mad God almost ten years ago, and it was met with universal praise. Now he's set the bar higher with that game's sequel, The Ultimate RPG Game. It's quite a different beast, a game with a stronger focus on roleplaying. It uses human characters with attributes, skills, and social features that are built through character generation. There is no GURPS-style resolution system, only a die that has six faces (which is equivalent to a six-sided die with 1/6 of a face left over). The GM rolls and compares his results to the players' results. If any player rolls lower, then they lose.
In Tekken 3, every character had a strong set of four moves called "special moves." They included a "Gravitron" which threw your opponent and a "Bomb" which detonated if you struck your opponent in the heart. Some fighters had two or more of these moves. And, if all else failed, you could perform a finisher move in which you would strike your opponent above their head, leaving them stunned for several seconds as their strength left them and they were so dizzied that they would perform an elaborate (and very comical) performance for the crowd. In Tekken 4, the fighting system was more balanced, but the Tekken popular then, when the time first arrived for Tekken 5, chose to strip away the game's unique post-match moves and post-match celebration moves. d2c66b5586
